How It Started
Carter Tech was founded by Nathan Carter in Bathurst in 2009, at a time when the managed IT services model was still largely unknown outside major metropolitan centres. Nathan brought that model to Central West NSW — becoming one of the first providers in the region to offer proactive, ongoing IT management rather than the traditional break-fix approach.
Nathan’s philosophy was simple, and it remains unchanged today: technology should work around how your business operates, not the other way around. There’s no use implementing a system that burdens how you do your work. Every solution Carter Tech implements is built around what each client actually needs — not what’s easiest to sell or what a vendor is pushing.
That approach was recognised early. In 2012, the Western Advocate profiled Nathan and described his thinking as “a new view of IT” — the idea that an IT provider should be 100% independent of any vendor, and willing to learn, test and implement whatever best serves the client, rather than defaulting to familiar products or supply arrangements.
More than fifteen years later, that independence is still one of the things that sets Carter Tech apart. We don’t have preferred vendor agreements that influence what we recommend. We have preferred outcomes — reliable, secure, practical technology that makes your business run better.
