Where the focus will be in 2015: Gartner
American technology research and analysis firm Gartner has named its top 10 trends for businesses to focus on heading into 2015.
The trends are:
Computing everywhere: The increased saturation of mobile devices, wearables, etc which place greater pressure on businesses to deliver through any device or medium.
The Internet of Things: Gartner recommends that organisations find ways to manage remote IoT assets and monetise them.
3D printing: As the cost of 3D printing tehcnology reduces, it will become more practical for business with better quality printers capable of printing larger objects becoming more accessible.
Advanced, pervasive and invisible analytics: Data will need to be better organised to better inform decisions.
Context-rich systems: Providing context to queries using pre-determined data.
Smart machines: Creating human-like interactions using AI.
Cloud and client computing: Gartner says cloud apps must move from being desktop apps made to work in the cloud but rather specifically designed for business use.
Software-defined applications and infrastructure: A move towards technology centered on software and function rather than infrastructure and platforms.
Web-scale IT: Leveraging the web in order to better manage risk and promote collaboration.
Security: Gartner advises organisations to focus on applications that work best as customized solutions.
